Bus passenger path choices after consulting ubiquitous real-time information

چکیده
Ubiquitous real-time passenger information (URTPI) enables public transport (PT) users to make better travel choices at both pre-trip and en-route stages. A significant amount of URTPI usage is evident in the existing literature. This study investigates impact on bus path choice. To this end, a survey was conducted City Edinburgh, UK, total 1645 completed responses were collected. More than half participants used least one source ubiquitous information. The results reveal that about 55% changed aspect their trip. Changing time departure from start boarding are two most popular actions taken by passengers after consulting URTPI. Passengers’ decisions influenced arrival time, route, walking distance. demonstrates potential change PT demand distribution. We find distribution for runs could potentially be 17% lines 15%. overall network affected 42% cases as result advocates planners operators should take into account predictions

Passenger Wait Time Perceptions at Bus Stops: Empirical Results and Impact on Evaluating Real- Time Bus Arrival Information
This study quantifies the relationship between perceived and actual waiting times experienced by passengers awaiting the arrival of a bus at a bus stop. Understanding such a relationship would be useful in quantifying the value of providing realtime information to passengers on the time until the next bus is expected to arrive at a bus stop. Data on perceived and actual passenger waiting times,...
متن کاملReal-time Bus Information on Mobile Devices
We report on a real-time transit vehicle information system which delivers content to Internet-enabled mobile devices, such as cell phones. The content is in the form of predicted arrival/departure times for buses at user-selectable geographic locations within a transit region. We discuss how the physical restrictions of such devices, e.g., screen size and paucity of keyboard options, influence...
متن کاملImplementation of a Real Time Passenger Information System
Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) are gaining recognition in developing countries like India. This paper describes the various components of our prototype implementation of a Real-time Passenger Information System (RTPIS) for a public transport system like a fleet of buses. Vehicle-mounted units, bus station units and a server located at the transport company premises comprise the system...
متن کاملDeveloping a Real Time Passenger Information System for Rural Areas
Passengers in rural areas are provided with little or no information regarding public transport disruptions. This can result in high levels of travel uncertainty with significant potential to affect travel behaviour. This paper, through 52 interviews, and 7 focus groups in rural areas in Scotland and England, explores the passenger experience, and the technology usage of individuals during disr...
متن کاملImpacts of real-time feedback on driving behaviour: a case- study of bus passenger drivers
The aim of this study was to analyse the impacts of real-time feedback on the driving behaviour of bus drivers, and to assess the potential impact of the characteristics of these subjects (age and time working at the company) on such behaviour. Data was collected with an on-board device installed in buses of a Portuguese urban transport operator. Three monitoring periods were considered: an ini...
